In 1945, the Charter of the United Nations was signed in San Francisco.
In 1995, the members of the United Nations reaffirmed their commitment to the principles of the Charter in commemorating the Fiftieth Anniversary of the founding of the organisation.
1998 saw the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
1999 was the Centennial year of the first International Peace Conference in The Hague.
All of these political advances eventually led to the founding of the International Court of Justice. The Preamble to the United Nations Charter lists the objectives of the United Nations, these objectives are our objectives.
